Tips for Portfolio Reviews

A portfolio review is the act of producing a portfolio taking it to a professional to get their opinion on the work. This creates the opportunity for the practitioner to show what they are shooting, how they do it.

Four Top Tips for Portfolio Reviews:

  • To explain what the work is about and reasonings behind the work before getting it out for the viewer.

- This allows them also to pay attention to what the work is about rather than being

distracted by the individual getting the work out.

- Explanation of the work will help them understand the concept of the work and

therefore be able to give more valuable feedback.

  • To offer them to send the PDF when the work is completed so that they remember you and can show them the finish product. This also helps to network.

- This therefore allows them to remember you as not many people will offer this so

make the portfolio review more unique and more likely to remember it.

- Therefore, can give feedback on the final outcome of the work.

- Allows the use of network.

  • To know the work inside out so that it is easy to answer all questions without hesitation.

- They will recognise the enthusiastic and serious about the work.

- Shows confidence and eagerness.

  • If the conversation has ended and there is silence, ask the questions and opinions on the work.

- Asking questions will allow the atmosphere to not be awkward and will get as much

feedback as can out of the session.

- Asking questions also engages them in the work

- Asking their opinions makes them feel helpful and helps them voice their opinions.

- They do a lot of reviews in the day so makes it easier for them.

Overall it is important to be well mannered, saying hello how are you at the start of the portfolio review and shaking their hands, as they do many of these in a day so need to make it easier for them.
